Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Heinz Mittelmeier Awards!
This year we had the pleasure to recognize two groups of honorees. Robert Nißler’s team evaluated the use of NIR-fluorescence in imaging that could improve ceramic fracture removal surgery. Meanwhile, a retrieval study conducted by Joachim Döring’s team analyzed wear-related damage to 43 BIOLOX®delta CoC and CoP components used in hard and soft bearings.

Ceramics in Equipment

When it comes to surgery, diagnostics and medical therapies, ultra-precise and reliable technology is required that is tailored to their specific use. Advanced ceramics ensure that the dialysis machines, endoscopic equipment and heart pumps you deliver to hospitals function reliably. Piezo-ceramic components help break up kidney and gall stones, give ultrasound diagnostics and treatment devices the necessary impulses and oscillate surgical knives and dental cleaning tools. In aerosol therapy, piezo-ceramic components are used in nebulizers. Ceramic bearings, seal rings and valve components accurately dose the required amount of medicine.
