  • 550,760 primary hip replacements (2009–2019, UK National Joint Registry)
  • 9,590 linked revision surgeries

Key Findings

Compared to other modern bearings, implants using BIOLOX®delta bearings across all fixation types were associated with

  • Lower 10-year revision rates
  • Higher patient-reported quality-of-life scores
  • Lower hospital costs in the first year post-op

BIOLOX®delta-bearing constructs demonstrated lower one-year costs for primary and revision surgery, respectively.

Although metal bearings still comprised 57% of implants during the study period, the data suggest a clear shift: ceramic-based constructs are emerging as both clinically superior and potentially more economically sustainable.
